Oh sweet, new Gary Lachman book. Lachman writes the kind of books we like, nay, LOVE, from the excellent Turn Off Your Mind: The Mystic Sixties and The Dark Side Of The Age of Aquarius which explored the whole LSD -Tim Leary-Manson-Process Church-Brian Jones- Lord of the Rings decade to Politics and the Occult, which deals with the whole Rosicrucian – LSD -Freemasonry – Guirdjeff – UFO – CIA – Thule Society connection. Now he takes an in depth look at the mystic Jung, in, well, Jung the Mystic: The Esoteric Dimensions of Carl Jung’s Life and Teachings.
Jung seems to be in vogue even more than usual lately. Last year saw the publication of the Red Book (Liber Novus, Latin for A New Book), Jung’s 16 year calligraphic walk through his unconscious with the figures Elijah and Salome. Even with a rather hefty price tag it seems to be the near universal constant in my friend’s libraries, usually stashed to the side away from everything else. With the publication of the Red Book also came the museum love, the Rubin Museum in New York had an exhibit of the original book and journals.
So yeah, Jung has a hell of a legacy, “founding father of the New Age,” secret mystic, synchronicity, etc. Just ordered it from Amazon & I have to say that I am anxiously awaiting it’s arrival. I’ll let you know what I think after I have devoured it.
So, who else is Gary Lachman? Well, he was the bass player for Blondie and wrote “(I’m Always Touched by Your) Presence, Dear“, introducing some weird shit to the airwaves as -
We could navigate together, psychic frequencies
Coming into contact with outer entities
We could entertain each one with our theosophies
The video is below but you won’t see Gary there, he’d been kicked out/left before it was recorded. Inside scoop here, or you can read the book.
Oh yeah, there is a podcast out there where Sphinx Radio interviews Gary Lachman -
